When we received this submission from Jade Maria Photography, we couldn’t help but share this gorgeousness! Cake and Lace loves film photography, so this engagement shoot is so well captured in this art form. This shoot is the perfect mix of natural, feminine and modern.
From the bride-to-be:
“Paul had just proposed to Desi only a few days before this intimate engagement session in the Santa Ysabel hills. As we walked through the gorgeous golden fields, it was clear how in love they are, and how excited they are to get married! They even already have a wedding date picked out for next April!
The sweet couple met through their church and mutual friends, and have been inseparable ever since. Paul set up a romantic picnic overlooking Carlsbad beach, where they shared each other’s company, enjoyed the view, and eventually asked for her hand in marriage.
Spending a very warm evening with Desi & Paul was an absolute blast, and I just love how the light and vibrant colors were captured on medium format film. Desi wore a beautiful light pink chiffon skirt that brought so much movement to the photos, and paired perfectly with the custom bouquet created by Amanda of Events by Condie.
How did you two meet?
We met at my church’s young adult Bible study. He was best friends with my friend’s husband. We all went on a camping trip to the desert with some friends, but we didn’t talk that first trip at all! It wasn’t until the second trip we all took together that we actually started talking to each other. At first, neither of us were actually interested, but over time we started talking, and we finally went on our first date two months later. On our first date, he took me and my dogs to the dog beach in Del Mar, and the rest is history!
How did he propose?
Paul made me think that we were going to get dinner with his grandma in Carlsbad. That day, my friends took me out to get my nails done. Later, Paul asked me to dress nicer because we were going to a fancier restaurant with his grandmother. I had no idea what he was planning! On our way down to the beach, we even stopped at a book store to throw me off even more! We stopped in a beautiful location overlooking the Carlsbad beach. There was a blanket and picnic set up for us with some candles. As the sun set, we ate snacks, talked, then he took me down closer to the ocean. We danced together, and then he got down on one knee, and asked me to marry him! It was incredibly romantic and perfect!”
