From the Bride:
“Everything about our wedding was so perfect and if I had the chance to go back and do it all over, I swear I wouldn’t change a single thing. We were on a bit of a budget, so we planned the entire thing ourselves. With the help of family and friends, everything turned out exactly as we imagined. It truly was the wedding of our dreams. Brent (now my husband) and I had said from the beginning of planning that we just wanted everyone to have a good time at our wedding. Don’t get me wrong, I thought about every little detail, but I honestly had fun throughout the entire planning process! I wanted the theme of rustic elegance and took to Pinterest for a lot of inspiration. I combined the rustic look of the reception barn and its wooden features with the elegant look of glass vases and floating candles. The reception barn was strung with white lights and a chandelier that fits perfectly with what I had envisioned. We had our ceremony on a beautiful mountain top in West Virginia. The white chairs and old church pews were decorated with bundles of eucalyptus – I absolutely love greenery! I didn’t want to go overboard with floral arrangements for the ceremony because the mountain top was beautiful enough. My grandfather built our arbor and our florist created some beautiful arrangements for it.
I will never forget when the doors opened and I started to walk down the aisle. I immediately locked eyes with Brent and the moment I had always dreamed of actually happened. He was crying at the sight of me and I couldn’t hold back the tears myself. I always knew I was going to be emotional on my wedding day, but I definitely thought I would keep it together better than what I actually did. Two of my favorite moments of the day brought the happiest of tears to my eyes. Brent and I wrote letters to each other to be read on the day of the wedding. Thankfully my makeup wasn’t done when I read his, because I was sobbing. That man surely has a way with words. At the end of the note, he said: “I wouldn’t change anything about you except your last name and today I get to do that”. I’m pretty sure he had everyone in the room crying. Another tear-jerking moment happened when I had the chance to FaceTime, my brother. He is in the military and has been overseas for about a year. When I first called he didn’t answer and I was so upset because I thought I had missed my opportunity. After all, it was almost 2 o’clock in the morning where he was. When he called back I had my hair and makeup done and my dress on. Seeing him on my wedding day was such an emotional and special moment. It was the closest we could get to him actually being there and meant the world to me.
I wanted our wedding to have as many personalized details as possible without breaking the bank. I had to use my creative side for some of these, but it added such a fun touch to our wedding that everyone loved! I told Brent I either wanted a fun photo booth or a mobile bar service. We thought about the crowd we would have and the bar service won. The mobile bar was an old horse trailer turned into a bar on wheels. It added the perfect touch to our rustic-elegant feel. We had personalized drink koozies made as wedding favors that matched our blue and mauve wedding colors. We also had personalized drinks named after our sweet pups that were apart of our wedding. We called it “The Conleys Cocktails” and served the “Nala-rita” and the “Kali-colada”. It was one of my favorite little details because our dogs mean so much to us! Not to mention how well the drinks paired with our delicious taco bar!
The best advice I can give to future brides is just to enjoy every little moment surrounding your wedding. From the start of planning and picking out save-the-dates to the final days before when you’re running frantic trying to pull last-minute things together (trust me, it happens). Everyone says that your wedding day is gone in the blink of an eye and it’s absolutely true!
Have fun and don’t worry about the little things! Everything will fall into place. Try on different dresses! Even the ones you think you definitely won’t like because its not what you had in mind. I thought I wanted a lace dress with long sleeves and I fell in love with the exact opposite! Involve your partner in the planning. Those little details will mean so much to you when you look back on your wedding day.”
